MOUNTAIN MODELS DISCUS- LAUNCH GLIDER
There is a grace and beauty in unpowered flight. Reading the subtlety of a thermal or suspending a glider in the lightest of lift is a wonderful experience.
This is what the DL50 was designed for. We wanted a glider that would fly well, be easy to build, and would withstand the abuse of a discus launch.
A great deal of time was spent working out a method where a builder could make a fiberglass over foam wing that would fly well but would not require the compexities of vacumn bagging. We are using the AG04-AG08 airfoil for it's excellent performance. This is a very thin airfoil so, in order for such a thin airfoil to withstand the forces of a discus launch, we use a combination of carbon fiber rod spars, carbon fiber tape, and fiberglass to create a strong, lightweight wing. The fiberglass is applied to the foam cores with Minwax Polycrylic water-based finish. It is easy to apply, works well, and cleans up easily.
The pod and tail are laser cut, ensuring an accurate build. The fuselage is then wrapped with fiberglass to give it strength while keeping it light.
The kit comes complete with all the required fiberglass, carbon fiber boom, pushrods, and wing spars.
